Back 2 Back

We Are Neighbors:

The We Are Neighbors photo project is an exhibit displaying the faces and backgrounds of 45 immigrants from 25 countries who live in Lane County. This display consists of 30 black and white and color photographs in 11" x 14" frames. This project reminds us of our heritage and helps us recognize the many ways out immigrant neighbors contribute to our communities.

What Does Family Look Like?:

This exhibit creates photographic essays in an effort to raise community awareness around the many different types of families that exist. It helps us to counter stereotyping and scapegoating by helping people to recognize that there are many types of families that contribute to this community. Families in this exhibit include: single parent, same sex, interracial, multi-generational, adoptive, and extended. Each of the families in this exhibit live within the limits of Lane County in Oregon. It is our hope that this photo exhibit will help people around our community understand that loving and nurturing families exist in many forms, and that each deserves respect. This display consists of 30 black and white and color photographs in 11" x 14" frames.

Displaying the Exhibits:

Each exhibit is free of charge and CALC provides set up and take down of the display. The pictures can be hung or placed on stands (also provided by CALC), and the display is adaptable to the space that you have available, as some pictures can be left out as needed. Each exhibit is usually on display for one month but time can be adjusted to fit your needs.

Stop Hate Campaign

CALC's Back to Back program works closely with the Stop Hate Campaign. The Stop Hate Campaign monitors and coordinates responses to hate activity in our community.

Here's how you can help:

  • Racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-gay harassment and intimidation threaten our neighborhoods.
  • Be a good neighbor. Use your eyes and ears to make sure hate doesn't take hold in our communities.
  • If you witness a hate crime taking place, call 9-1-1 and yell, "I'm calling 9-1-1"

If you have any information regarding hate activity or see anything that appears to be hate activity:

  • Get license plate number, location and physical descriptions.
  • Notify law enforcement:
    1. Eugene Police Department (541) 682-5111
    2. Springfield Police Department (541) 726-3714
    3. Lane County Sheriff (541) 682-4140

    1. Call the Eugene Human Rights Commission (541) 682-5177
    2. Call Community Alliance of Lane County (541) 485-1755

Call the Stop Hate Campaign at (541) 607-8077

The Stop Hate Campaign is a volunteer program dedicated to making this a safer community for every one.

LGBTQ youth storm the capitol!

In collaboration with Basic Rights Oregon and Eugene-Springfield’s Queer Youth Support Coalition, the LGBTQ Youth Leadership Development Pilot Project mobilized local youth to participate in lobby day on March 7, 2007 from 9-5. This served as an opportunity to support state-wide non-discrimination legislation, learn how our state government works, and lobby our legislators. At noon we rallied on the capitol steps.

Anti Hate Activity

Back to Back continues to work with the Stop Hate Campaign in working to respond quickly to acts of hate. Recent counterleafleting efforts have happened in South and North Eugene.

The Back to Back: I Got Your Back campaign is in full swing. Make sure you sign (and return) your pledge to receive action alerts about what you can do to have your community’s back!

BACK TO BACK:

I got your back
I pledge to. . .
  • Stand up for human rights and human dignity.
  • Support the right of all people to live free from discrimination and harassment.
  • Educate myself and my community about systems of oppression, especially racism, anti- Semitism and heterosexism.
  • Fight bigotry and oppression in all its forms — overt and institutionalized.
  • Respond to hate activity in our neighborhoods.
  • Mobilize people to take action towards securing a safer, more respectful community for all. During the next year, I’ll be there at least five times supporting human rights and fighting for social justice.

If we support each other, everyone wins.
