We are looking for Lane County high school seniors with a commitment to Peace and Social Justice to receive Peace Scholarships, one at $1,000 and three at $500

These scholarships are a joint project of Community Alliance of Lane County, a 52 year old local non-profit organization promoting peace and social justice, the Rotary Club of Eugene and the Rotary E Club of the State of Jefferson. Rotary clubs’ mission includes promoting peace through service worldwide.

These scholarships are locally funded by people who wish to support local students who are committed to peace and social justice and to provide an alternative for students who might otherwise seek money for college through military enlistment.

In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

-Eligibility:         Interest and activity as a person of peace and social justice

Graduating from a Lane County high school or GED program in 2019

Acceptance in a post secondary education or training institution

-Application requirements:

Completed application (see attached)

Official high school transcript

-Two letters of reference in sealed envelopes.  Do not send a reference from a friend or family member.

-Essay as described in prompt below

Decision criteria:  We may ask to interview the finalists.  Criteria used for award decisions include: the quality of your essay, including how responsive it is to the prompt, evidence of financial need, evidence of peace and social justice commitment.  We will give some preference to applicants of color, immigrants, first in family to attend college, of low income and those who do not have a lot of other scholarship money.
